“Irishpalooza” Martin City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Near South Creek Overland Park

What better way to start off the week of St. Patrick’s Day than with an “Irishpalooza”?  Join Martin City on Sunday, March 11th, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm (parade begins at 2:00) for the 25th anniversary of its St. Patrick’s Day parade—the theme this year is “25 Years of Goin’ Green.”  The very first parade in 1987 consisted of three Martin City leaders who grabbed a few friends, hopped in two cars and a horse & buggy, and held an impromptu St. Patrick’s Day “parade” down 135th Street.  The parade still takes place on 135th street, but the event has grown to consist of several other activities as well.  Pre-parade activities include:

•    The Prince and Princess Contest (Ages 2–7 yrs.)
•    The Best Dressed Pet Contest
•    Faulkner Ranch Kiddie Korral (Ages 10 & under)
•    Face Painting (All ages!)
•    Food & Beverage Vendors
•    The Kansas City Police Department Information Tent
•    DJ Jeff Holmes – “rockin’ all day”

After the parade from 3:30 to 7:00 pm, the Kelihans, one of KC’s most notable Irish Bands, plays in Martin City on March 11th in the Post-Parade Party Tent at Jess & Jim’s Steakhouse north parking lot on 135th St.
